What’s ceramic used for bulletproof plates?
The ceramics in bulletproof plates generally use the following three different materials:
1. Alumina ceramics
Alumina ceramics have the highest density among the three materials. Under the same area, the bulletproof plates made of alumina ceramics are much heavier. But the price of alumina ceramics is very low. Therefore, some customers who need large-scale purchases will choose this bulletproof plates.
2. Silicon carbide ceramics
Its price is relatively expensive, 4 to 5 times that of alumina ceramics, but the lighter weight can bring a better wearing experience and reduce the consumption of physical strength. If it is a customer with sufficient funds after all, it is recommended to choose this kind of bulletproof plates.
3. Boron carbide ceramics
The price of boron carbide is very expensive, which can reach 8 to 10 times that of silicon carbide. Because of its high value, generally we only use this material in NIJ IV bulletproof plates.
